Dalotia, formerly known as Atheta and commonly known as the Rove Beetle, has become a very popular generalist predator. Although it is considered a soil beetle, it can be found in areas as diverse as the tops of pepper plants, where it feeds on spider mite, to the fungal mats in drains, feeding on Shore Fly larvae and eggs.
Our main use of this predator is for controlling Fungus Gnats and Shore Flies in very wet locations. They can be successfully employed under propagation misting tents, surviving almost aquatic situations. They generally prefer very loose and coarse soil types, such as bark chips.
