Encarsia formosa
Encarsia formosa is a parasitoid wasp of greenhouse whitefly and is also capable of feeding on and parasitizing bemisia whitefly. 99% of wasps are female. Each can host feed on three whitefly scale and parasitize five scale per day. Parasitized whitefly scale turn black, making scouting and parasitism evaluation easy.
This product was created after trials of un-refrigerated Encarsia showed a ten-fold increase in efficacy compared to the stored product. Subsequent trials also showed that its’ temperature range greatly exceeds the range published for it in literature. This product’s low control point is below 10 degrees C. Our superior product, Encarsia Max, is so effective it can be used to prevent and even manage some small whitefly outbreaks at a rate as low as 0.25 wasps per square meter with only one central release point.
The low temperature range ideally suits it for ornamentals and cut flowers grown below 18 degrees C, where it is the only product capable of Whitefly control. The high temperature range, as best as we can tell, is 40 degrees C.
